Enrichment at HNC is a key component of our curriculum intent to educate, enrich and enlighten our students. Enrichment at HNC is therefore a compulsory part of life at the College – supporting you to develop the skills and confidence to become your best self! HNC’s enrichment programme changes year on year but one thing remains consistent – there are always over one hundred different activities, societies and clubs to choose from. You can view our current enrichment programme here. When you join HNC as a new student, you will choose your enrichment programme once you have settled in to life at HNC, but here you can take part in some enrichment activities from home to get you in the right mindset. As with your subject activities, the below suggestions are not compulsory, but they will allow you to gain a genuine flavour of the kinds of experiences you will be encouraged to take part in at HNC. If you do complete any of the below activities, we’d love to see your efforts. Submit your work to us using the buttons below and we will share our favourite submissions on our social channels.
My summer in a photograph

The summer between GCSEs and starting your next steps is a special one – maybe you’re off to your first festival, or you’re planning to spend some much needed time with friends and family, or perhaps you’re planning a once in a lifetime trip to celebrate the end of your GCSEs. Whatever your plans for the summer are, in ‘my summer in a photograph’, we’re asking you to snap a picture that captures your summer break in a single image.
We’d love to see your pictures, and our favourites will be shared on our social channels.
Work Experience

Students at HNC are supported to gain a work experience through high value industry placements. Work experience is one of the best ways to develop your skills and confidence, and for some careers, it plays a key role in your progression. Careers in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science often require students to have undertake relevant placements, for example. But whatever your plans are after College, work experience is a always good idea.
Did you know that you can take part in online work experience? Springpod is a brilliant and free digital tool in which you can take part in a number of opportunities – all you need to do is sign up for a free account to get started.
Review a book

Reading is one of the best ways to boost your memory, reduce stress and improve vocabulary; That’s why the Book Club is a longstanding enrichment at HNC! In Book Club, we choose, read and review a wide range of books. In this activity we’re encouraging you to read a book over the summer break and ‘micro-review’ it in no more than 250 words. It could be a fiction or non-fiction book, a book you’ve read before or one from your TBR (to be read) pile. We’d love to hear about the books you’ve read and add them to our very own Book Club TBR pile. Not sure what books to read? This year in Book Club we have read The Northern Lights by Philip Pullman, The Sun is Also a Star, by Nicola Yoon, 1984 by George Orwell and The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
